My Own Picture That Lies
In my altered photo found on Google images, I chose to replace the object which the boy is holding. He originally held an apple; however, as you can see, he now holds a rather unhealthy substitute: a hamburger. I then formatted the the picture of the boy as black and white in order to emphasize the negativity of the image and allowed the hamburger to remain colored in order to suggest it as the sole reason for the issue at hand. I chose this image in order to portray the negative effects of unhealthy foods upon children. A health magazine might perform similar actions on photos placed in its articles in order to support whatever issue it is addressing. In this particular case, fast food could be blamed for the current issue of childhood obesity; however, in actuality the boy was originally eating an apple. Altering photos for such reasons is wrong because it does not provide an accurate representation of actual circumstances and can therefore cause viewers to become misinformed about current health situations.

PowerPoint
I thought that these articles provided a lot of useful information about the development of a good PowerPoint presentation. Although a few of the suggestions in the article “Really Bad PowerPoint” seemed a little extreme, such as each slide should contain no more than six words, overall these articles provided many helpful suggestions. One idea that I thought was especially useful was the suggestion to create cue cards. In the past my presentations have included a large amount of text simply because I did not want to forget to say something; however, cue cards present a solution to this problem. Another interesting fact that was mentioned was how PowerPoint presentations should connect with our emotions in order to be effective. I had never though of it in this way before, but this definitely makes sense. If you want your audience to truly be effected by your presentation, then it needs to visually appealing, not bogged down with text. Therefore you must carefully select animations, sounds, fonts, colors, etc. that will attract and hold the audience’s attention. Also your presentation should consist of a constant theme.
The following are a few more important things to keep in mind when developing a PowerPoint presentation:
1. Keep the information on your slides brief and precise. Slides with excess amounts of information are boring and can distract the audience from what you are trying to say.
2. Avoid the use of distracting slide animations and sounds. Animations and sounds should subtlety enhance your presentation, not serve as a distraction.
3. Be creative in your slide designs. Don’t simple used the pre-formatted templates.
4. Text should be easily read by the observer. This not only includes the actual font but also its color and size.
5. Adequately prepare yourself for your presentation. Fully comprehend the information that you are sharing and be able to respond to any questions from your audience.

Pictures that Lie
I chose this picture of Oprah Winfrey’s head photo-shopped onto the body of Ann-Margret, which was originally found on the cover of TV Guide in August 1989, because it addresses some of the same issues that are associated with a couple of the other pictures on this web-site, such as the those of Katie Couric and Martha Stewart. In all of these photos, a woman’s body has been manipulated in order to make her appear more attractive. In this particular picture, Oprah is associated with great wealth. This goes back to the idea that the “rich and famous” all have perfect bodies although with vast sums of money. This photo was obviously manipulated in order to portray Oprah as “having it all together.” I believe that this type of manipulation is extremely harmful. It is not only harmful to the people whose photos are being altered but also to our in entire society. In this particular case, neither Oprah Winfrey nor Ann-Margret was aware of the manipulation. Also, this proves destructive to our society. Young children, teens, and adults are constantly swarmed by media. Whenever they observe magazines, TV programs, etc. they believe that you must be thin and have a perfect body in order to be considered successful or socially accepted. As we all know, this is not true. No one is perfect, and computer technology should definitely not be used in order to portray people in a way causes us to believe any differently.

Copyright Presentation
One particular issue that was discussed in Mr. Hardin’s lecture was whether or not a person is guilty of infringement if he/she claims to be ignorant of his/her illegal action. Mr. Hardin explained that this excuse does not normally pass because almost anyone can declare that he/she was not fully informed about the laws that he/she was violating. Some people may argue that if the laws and regulations concerning copyright infringement are not widely known then they should not be held responsible for breaking them. Nevertheless, everyone is responsible for becoming aware of the laws concerning copyright. Although copyright issues can be scary subjects, I strongly agree with the previous statement. We should all strive to better educate ourselves about the issues and laws concerning copyright so that the individual creators of works receive the credit they are due and have an incentive to produce more unique works.

Hi my name is Anne!
My full name is Elizabeth Anne Waidelich, but I go by my middle name. This is my first year at Trinity University and I am from the small town of Floyd, Texas, which is about an hour northeast of Dallas. I attended Bland High School where I was involved in many club activities and where I ran cross-country and track and played basketball. I will also be playing basketball here at Trinity in the fall. I am very close to my family and love them very much. My father is a farmer and my mother is a nurse. I also have an older brother who attends Texas A&M University and a younger sister who is in the eighth grade. When I'm not involved in sports, I like to spend time with my family and friends. I also like to cook. Over the years I have been actively involved in my church, First Baptist Farmersville. During my time at Trinity, I hope to join some of the Christian groups here on campus. I also plan to receive my Masters Degree in Education. I am interested in teaching at the elementary level and also coaching.
I am definitely not a computer pro and will therefore be willing to learn any new information. Throughout high school, I took two years of computer. During one of my classes, we used the Adobe Photoshop program excessively in order to create advertisements, sports programs, bulletins, menus, logos, etc. I found this kind of work especially enjoyable.
*One thing you might not know about me is that I used to show lambs at my county fair.
My Trinity e-mail is elizabeth.waidelich@trinity.edu.
